The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) joins the MVA

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has joined the MVA initiative as an MVA Partner.

NED is a U.S.-based, non-profit organization with a mission to promote and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide and supports a wide array of initiatives, including independent media, civil society organizations, and political parties, with a focus on advancing human rights, fostering democratic governance, and facilitating the free exchange of information. NED recognizes independent media as a cornerstone of a healthy democracy.

NED plays a crucial role in fostering independent media by providing grants and technical assistance to local media organizations, journalists, and press freedom advocates in over 90 countries. These grants help promote free and independent journalism in environments where media freedom is under threat. NED’s support is vital for enabling media outlets to operate without government influence, thereby contributing to the transparency and accountability necessary for healthy democracies.

As an MVA partner, NED will support the MVA Forward program mission to improve the sustainability and resilience of independent media globally and will also support the vetting of organizations joining the MVA platform, as per the MVA Trust Framework, in order to keep the platform a safe space for independent media. This vetting process is complemented by the MVA’s rigorous digital safety processes, supported by technology partner Microsoft.

The MVA invites partners of the National Endowment of Democracy to join the MVA and apply for MVA Forward funding opportunities. Learn more about the MVA’s other partners here.
